Newsletter

Dear LAGCV Families,

We are well into 2019, and the Board wants to bring you up to date on the latest and events for this year.  First, though, we’d like to introduce the current Board members:

President – Scott Nave
Vice President – Julie Barreto
Secretary – Eileen Nehira
Treasurer – Harriet Oberman
Director of Coaches – Ross Greaney
Director of Fields – Dave Bigelow
Director of Club Development – Simon Beaven

Ross also serves as our Executive Director and Eileen as Director of Operations.  All our contact information can be found on the Club website – lagalaxyconejovalley.com.

A SPECIAL THANK YOU!  Recently, our long-time President, Doug Easton, and Treasurer, Jodi Schechter, resigned from the Board.  Doug did an amazing job growing our Club into what it is today, and Jodi did a yeoman’s work handling the finances for the Club and all its teams.  We cannot express how grateful we are for all their dedication and hard work, volunteering to make our Club that much better.

Our website has changed! We have transitioned to the LA Galaxy platform to provide better uniformity with the Galaxy and its other affiliate programs (Bakersfield, Orange County, San Diego and South Bay).  In the near term, we will be working to update the content on the website. If there is something you would like to see on the website, let us know!

The Youngers teams (2011-2005) are closing out the 2018-19 season and are gearing up for a new season. As coaches finalize their rosters, please be on the lookout for your invitation to play email. The season for Olders teams ends May 31st, so expect yours sometime after State Cup. Registration days will be held on March 18th and 19th, 5:30-7:30pm, at the Conejo Creek Community Room.

Our club hosts two tournaments each year: the Tournament of Champions on May 25-26, and Summer Cup on August 17-18. Our tournaments directly benefit our Financial Aid program, so please show your support and have a great time with us on the pitch!  For these events to be successful, we need volunteers. Families requesting financial aid are required to help, but anyone can sign up to volunteer! Please watch for an email sign up in May.

The Club recently completed, in conjunction with CRPD, four futsal courts at Los Cerritos Middle School.  We are very excited about developing a Futsal League where players can better develop their technical skills and team play.  Stay tuned as the program is developed, and check out the website under the Programs link for more information on our futsal program.

In addition to futsal, the Club provides goalkeeping and SAQ (speed, agility, and quickness) training during the week at Thousand Oaks Park.  These training sessions are completely FREE to club members. Coach Laura holds goalkeeping sessions on Mondays and Tuesdays, 5:30 and 6:30, and Coach Patrick has sessions on Wednesdays and Thursdays evenings, 5:00 (youngers) and 6:00 (olders).  Coach Robert conducts SAQ training Monday – Thursday at 5:30 and 6:30.

The Club is expanding!  We now have both boys and girls teams in the San Fernando Valley, ages U8 to U19.  As our reputation grows, we are excited about the opportunities we have to grow the Club.  If you are interested in a team in the Woodland Hills area, please contact Ross at doc@cvusc.com.

Finally, we are pleased to announce the Club received a Coast Soccer League 2018  5-Star Award for Large Clubs. This award is given to clubs who have been recognized by their peers for creating a “5 Star”  soccer experience. Each week, teams and referees go on to the CSL app and provide feedback on their game-day experience. We are proud to receive this award and will continue to work hard to provide a “5 Star” experience every day.

Sincerely,
Board of Directors
